• Jeff Class InspirationDecatur Public Schools recognizes that curriculum is an essential component within an effective school district. We first begin with the state adopted standards. Teams of teachers then break these standards down by defining what knowledge and skill is required for students to reach the defined objectives. These objective statements, outlining what students should know and be able to do, are written as “Students will be able to…”

    Teacher teams, often with the help of our district Instructional Coordinators, determine appropriate learning progressions and suggested pacing for units of study. They also designate aligned resources and review assessment items that help inform our progress toward these standards.

    DPS recognizes that curricular development is an ongoing process and is committed to the continual examination of our curriculum as we provide opportunities for every student to maximize his or her unique potential.

Career and Technical Education Programs

  • It is the policy of Decatur Public Schools not to discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, or disability in its programs or activities.

    Decatur Public Schools will take steps to ensure that a person's lack of English language skills will not be a barrier to admission and participation in all educational and vocational programs. The District's Non-Discrimination/Title IX Coordinator or Complaint Manager has been designated to coordinate Title IX and Section 504 compliance.

    The District will use the grievance procedures in Board of Education Policy 2:260 (Uniform Grievance Procedure) and Policy 2:265 (Title IX Sexual Harassment Grievance Procedure) to process complaints based on alleged violations of law or Board policy.

    No student, parent/guardian, employee, or other member of the Decatur Public School community will be subjected to retaliation as prohibited under any law or Board policy, including those laws identified above. Retaliation is an adverse act imposed because a person has asserted a right or participated in a process involving the assertion of a right, including reporting a violation of law or Board policy or participating in the grievance processes used to process complaints based on alleged violations of law or Board policy.
